DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
