DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
