DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation centers are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
