DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
