DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehab centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse.
