DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road.
