Criminal justice clients are people who are in any sort of alcohol and drug treatment facility because of a drug or alcohol related crime. This will occur for example when someone is convicted of drunk driving or DWI, and for any other type of drug related criminal offense that has led the judge to believe that the individual has any sort of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehab center as a criminal justice client, however, if this approach is ordered through the court it is strongly advised that the individual try everything they can to benefit from this opportunity. Most of the time, other penalties and consequences may be totally eradicated or lessened in the event the individual succeeds in treatment and finishes the drug rehabilitation facility that is ordered for them. New offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients who do experience treatment in place of other consequences have significantly lower recidivism rates than those people who are ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. In the end, it saves a legal court system both time and money when criminal justice clients receive effective rehab.
