DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated later on.
