DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
