Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most often describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis will help someone who might not have been able to be helped previously, end drug or alcohol abuse because they can be properly diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or treated incorrectly that may have prompted and led to their drug or alcohol use issues. Establishing the fact that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish an efficient treatment course for them, but could also help clients better understand what triggered their drug use and the way to prevent it later on. Handling dual diagnosis is often a more extensive process than a typical drug rehab program, and people who have a dual diagnosis might be required to take part in a substantial aftercare program that might include appropriate medical support along with further treatment services. Being diagnosed with co-occurring disorders doesn't imply that the person should be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in reality lots of people with a dual diagnosis experience more effective results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment methods are utilized.
