DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
