Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most often describes a co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis might help a person that might not have been capable of being helped previously, finish drug abuse by being accurately diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder might have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or mistreated which could have prompted and resulted in their substance abuse issues. Establishing the truth that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not simply helps establish a highly effective treatment course for them, but will also help clients better know what triggered their drug use and how to prevent it in the future. Addressing dual diagnosis may be a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and individuals who have a dual diagnosis may need to participate in a substantial aftercare program which might include proper medical support in addition to continued rehab services. Being clinically determined to have co-occurring disorders doesn't signify the individual must be medicated through out their lives either, and in fact a lot of people who have a dual diagnosis experience far better outcomes when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are employed.
