Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of rehab, and shouldn't be mistaken for the degree of rehabilitation provided in an inpatient or residential treatment program which can be much more extensive. Outpatient treatment may be well suited for someone who has a brief history of substance abuse for instance, but will almost certainly not be adequate for somebody whose rehabilitation needs go beyond what outpatient treatment is able to provide.
