DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab centers are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future.
