DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
