Dual diagnosis is a circumstance whereby two independent disorders are present, and most typically describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. Addressing dual diagnosis might be a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and people with a dual diagnosis may need to take part in a substantial aftercare program which can include appropriate medical support in addition to further treatment services. Being identified as having co-occurring disorders doesn't signify the person should be medicated through out their lives either, and actually many people with a dual diagnosis experience much better results when treated holistically and when alternative therapy is utilized.
