DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future.
