DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
