Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any type of drug and alcohol treatment program as a result of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will happen for example when someone is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or for any other type of drug related crime that has led the judge to believe the individual has any type of drug abuse issue. Not everyone has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered from the court it is wise that the individual do everything they can to take full advantage of this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences may be completely eradicated or lessened if the individual succeeds in rehabilitation and completes the drug and alcohol treatment center which has been ordered for them. First-time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients that take part in treatment in lieu of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those people who are ordered to jail time or similar consequences. Eventually, it saves a legal court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients receive effective rehab.
