DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
