DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
