DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on.
