DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
