Criminal justice clients are people who are in any type of drug treatment program because of a drug or alcohol related crime. This can occur for instance when someone is found guilty of drunk driving or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related crime that has led a legal court to think that the individual has any kind of drug or alcohol use issue. Not everybody has the option of getting involved in a drug rehabilitation program as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered from the judge it is wise that the individual do everything they are able to to make the most of this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences could be completely eliminated or lessened if the individual does well in rehabilitation and completes the drug rehabilitation facility that has been ordered for them. First-time offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been proven that criminal justice clients that do experience treatment instead of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to time in jail or receive other penalties. In the long run, it saves a legal court system both time and money when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
