DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
