DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
