DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
