DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future.
