DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
