DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
