DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence later on.
