Dual Diagnosis - Fort Defiance, Arizona

Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders are present, and most often describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone who may not have been capable of being helped during the past, put an end to drug abuse by being properly diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, or mistreated that may have triggered and led to their drug abuse issues. Establishing the truth that someone is in fact a dual diagnosis client not only helps establish an effective treatment course for them, but may also help clients better understand what led to their drug abuse and ways to prevent it in the future. Addressing dual diagnosis may be a more extensive process compared to a typical drug rehab program, and folks with a dual diagnosis may need to participate in a substantial aftercare program which may include appropriate medical support along with continued rehab services. Being clinically determined to have co-occurring disorders doesn't signify the person should be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in fact many people with a dual diagnosis experience much better outcomes when treated holistically and when alternative treatment methods are employed.
