DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future.
