DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on.
