DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
