DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
