DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
