DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
