DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehab centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
