DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
