DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
