DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high down the road. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
