DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while under the influence later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
