DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
