DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
