DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation centers are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
