DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
