DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
