DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
