DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
